Constructive Dialogue®
A Model for facilitating important conversations

Whether giving feedback, facilitating meetings or workplace discourse, most people are unprepared to successfully navigate important conversations-particularly those where there are strongly held views attached to strong emotions.

Constructive Dialogue was designed to offer people effective tools to prepare for and facilitate frank and meaningful conversations with employees, colleagues, and customers. Constructive Dialogue removes the often-adversarial nature of these conversations and replaces it with a respectful model that encourages collaboration.

The Constructive Dialogue model promotes a shared investment in problem solving, leading to enhanced relationships and sustainable, long-term solutions.

Constructive Dialogue® ensures:
  • There is a clear purpose and intended outcome for the meeting or feedback, one not based on hidden agendas.

  • Tough issues are appropriately addressed in a timely fashion, not avoided or sugarcoated.

  • Multiple perspectives are encouraged and examined, not discounted.

  • Problems are collaboratively resolved, not used as an opportunity for assigning blame.

  • Participants are held accountable for specific action items, not to ambiguous "gonna do's."

In this two-day workshop, participants will learn how to:

  1. Use a six-step guide to prepare for important conversations
  2. Resolve tough issues, while maintaining mutual respect
  3. Clearly define and articulate the purpose for meetings
  4. Present feedback that focuses on specific modifiable behaviors
  5. Communicate concerns directly and without apology
  6. Inquire and demonstrate understanding of different perspectives
  7. Apply strategies for responding to strong emotions
  8. Create action plans that have obtainable and measurable outcomes
  9. Administer a Constructive Dialogue assessment tool
  10. Apply the Constructive Dialogue Model to on-the-job scenarios
